Laundress

Contrary to popular opinion people within the seventeenth century would have washed and kept their clothes clean.

Larger households would have contained a laundry, run by a laundress, who would have been charged with keeping the household wares looking clean and tidy.

The laundry process would have been time consuming, labour intensive and hard work for those involved.
